17th-Century English Country House Newington House Lists for $19 Million

Newington House, a 17th-century country estate in Oxfordshire, England, is currently on the market for £14.25 million (around $19 million) via Savills Private Office. Constructed in the late 1600s for Henry Dunch, the house features a limestone facade inspired by the Palazzo Pallavicini in Genoa, where his wife, Maria Pallavicini, was raised. The property, which covers 43 acres and overlooks the River Thame, underwent significant renovations in the late 18th century, adding a floor, a Corinthian-columned porch, marble fireplaces, and intricate plasterwork. In the early 1900s, it was home to American artist Ethel Sands, who entertained notable figures like Henry James and Virginia Woolf. The current owners, the Nettleton family, acquired it in 1991 for £1.58 million ($2.1 million) and have made substantial improvements, including a lake and tennis court. The 13,000-square-foot home boasts original timber beams, parquet floors, and seven bedrooms. It can also be purchased in three separate parcels: the main house for £9.95 million ($13.3 million), the Manor House for £2.45 million ($3.2 million), and the Coach House for £1.95 million ($2.6 million).
