15 Public Art Commissions Transform Seattle's Pioneer Square for World Cup 2026

For the FIFA World Cup 2026, Seattle's Pioneer Square is being transformed into an open-air exhibition featuring 15 newly commissioned large-scale artworks. The initiative, led by RailSpur in partnership with Forest For The Trees and SeattleFWC26, runs from June 4 through July 2, 2026. Installations are integrated into building facades, alleyways, and intersections, creating a continuous route through the historic neighborhood. Artists include Mauricio Ramirez, Sa'rah Sabino, Nicol Grindulis, Paul Nunn, Kwonny, and Caratoes, each contributing works that explore identity, migration, and cultural memory. The project extends World Cup celebrations beyond stadiums, positioning Pioneer Square as a cultural destination. Populus Seattle anchors match-period events under its "Beyond the Pitch" programming, with activities at Salt Harvest and Firn. The installations aim to slow movement and shift attention to urban details, reflecting a broader trend of using public art to connect visitors with local communities during global events.
