14 Contemporary Artists Transform Forgotten Furniture at Château de Châteaudun

The Centre des monuments nationaux has drawn from the collection of "Aliénés"—historical furniture deemed obsolete and without heritage value—reimagined by contemporary artists and designers through an initiative by the Mobilier national. This summer, 52 such pieces are installed across three monuments: the towers of La Rochelle, the ducal castle of Cadillac-sur-Garonne, and the Château de Châteaudun. At Châteaudun, fourteen works occupy the Dunois wing. Artists include Camillo Bernal and Milo Desch (a screen), Sophie Zénon and Bruno Bouteloup (a mahogany bookcase), Hubert Le Gall (a lantern), and Alexandre Benjamin Navet (an Empire bed transformed into a lounge area with tables, benches, and integrated lighting). The exhibition imagines how Jean de Dunois, a 15th-century lord who traveled with his furniture, would furnish his castle today. The château, perched 60 meters above the Loir, blends feudal, Gothic, and Renaissance architecture and houses a collection of 16th- and 17th-century Flemish and French tapestries. The show runs until November 8.
