01 Festival Branding Uses Clock Motif from Colonial Building's Architecture
Anthony Lam created the branding for the 01 Festival, an electronic music event spanning three floors at Murray House in Stanley, Hong Kong. This 19th-century colonial structure was originally taken apart from central Hong Kong and reassembled along the waterfront. Lam focused on the building's distinctive architectural arches and geometry, transforming them into a clock face motif that symbolizes the passage of time. The branding employs Rigton, a display typeface designed by Boyan Nurdiansyah, utilized in two sizes against a restricted color palette. This typeface anchors the clock face design, ensuring a clear hierarchy without depending on color contrast. Architectural features are simplified to emphasize geometric shapes first, with historical references secondary, steering clear of a heritage tourism vibe. The identity is presented in both static and animated digital formats, with the clock motif consistently scaling and moving. Lam tackled the venue's complex history by centering on a singular concept—the clock—allowing everything else to support it.
