Tazartes Collection Spotlight: Piero Garino and Arnold d'Altri

publication · 2026-10-04

The Tazartes Collection includes a still life featuring melons and pears by Piero Garino, a prominent painter from Piedmont, who was born in Leinì, Turin, in 1922 and passed away in 2009. A self-taught artist, he created his works while employed as a barman at bar Combi. On 15 October 2016, his niece Irene shared that he painted during brief moments of respite. Garino gained recognition in the 1960s through exhibitions and his participation in the Venice Biennale, earning admiration from French poet Paul Eluard. Additionally, Arnold d'Altri (20 May 1904 – July 1980) is featured with his oil on canvas piece Aktiv 19, which merges elements of Cubism and Surrealism. A Swiss artist, he studied under Otto Kappeler and was known for his modern, stylized depictions of human figures.
