Silvia Semenzin Discusses "Internet Is Not a Place for Women" at Palazzo della Ragione

On Friday, September 25 at 7:00 PM, the digital sociologist, researcher, and feminist activist Silvia Semenzin will present a public program titled "Internet Is Not a Place for Women" at the Palazzo della Ragione in Piazza Vecchia. The event examines how the internet, initially conceived as a space of freedom, has a history that often overlooks the contributions of women who built it. Semenzin will explore how digital platforms, despite serving as spaces of belonging for marginalized communities, have evolved into infrastructures that reproduce violence, misogyny, and new forms of toxic masculinity. The discussion will address the intersections of algorithms, the body, desire, and resistance, questioning the responsibility of technology and the possibility of reclaiming it through activism, education, and practices of freedom. The goal is to imagine more conscious digital ecosystems. The event is free and open to the public, but reservation is mandatory via the email biglietteria@gamec.it. This program is part of the public offerings organized by GAMeC – Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo, though the specific venue is the Palazzo della Ragione in Bergamo's Piazza Vecchia. The talk aligns with contemporary debates on digital rights, feminist tech criticism, and the ethical dimensions of algorithmic culture.
