Rome's New Trajan's Baths Museum Unveils Ancient Mosaic and 'Painted City' Fresco
A new museum has been inaugurated on Rome's Colle Oppio, focusing on the Baths of Trajan. It features a monumental ancient mosaic and the 'Città Dipinta' fresco, which was uncovered in 1998. The highlight of the museum is the cryptoporticus, constructed by Trajan's architects. In 2004, a passageway led to a room behind the frescoed wall, which contains an important wall mosaic. This museum is part of Rome's civic circuit and can be accessed via Via del Monte Oppio and Via delle Terme di Tito. Free entry will be available on weekends by reservation in September 2026, with limited group visits. The exedra has been converted into a small amphitheater. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri mentioned that the project was financed by PNRR – Caput Mundi.
