Rome Film Fest at 21: A Big-Budget Festival Still Searching for Identity
According to Il Post, the Festa del cinema di Roma, established in 2006, is both ambitious and expensive but has fallen short of its initial goals. The festival, which concludes on Sunday, showcases talents like Javier Bardem, Julianne Moore, and Cristian Mungiu, yet it lacks the media impact of the Venice Film Festival. A significant portion of its lineup includes films already seen in theaters or on television, a result of its non-competitive segments. Notably, the Disney+ series VisionQuest was promoted as a premiere but was accessible a day prior. Founded by Walter Veltroni, the former mayor of Rome, the festival is managed by the Fondazione Cinema per Roma, with its budget now reduced to €10 million from €17 million in 2006 due to sponsor withdrawals.
