Mercanteinfiera Parma Debuts Vintage Photo Parma, a New Section on Vernacular Photography
From October 3 to 11, the Mercanteinfiera event in Parma will feature Vintage Photo Parma, a segment dedicated to vernacular photography, curated by Ilaria Dazzi and Fabio Castelli. Castelli highlights the significance of anonymous photography, presenting it alongside the works of contemporary artists who reinterpret these images. Among the exhibitors are Serge Plantureux, who showcases 19th-century Italian photography, and Libreria Antiquaria Sonia Natale, which focuses on photojournalism depicting Italian emigrants in 1960s Germany. Sergio Smerieri features found vernacular photographs from tourist booklets, while Matteo Giacomelli offers collections of European performers and candid moments of everyday life. Additionally, Thy Lab presents Ying Bo's exploration of photographs lost during Typhoon Mangkhut. A discussion on anonymous photography will take place on October 4, led by Michele Smargiassi.
