Letterboxd Attracts $300 Million Acquisition Bids from Netflix, A24, Sony and Paramount
According to the New York Times, Letterboxd, a platform for film reviews and recommendations, has attracted interest from several buyers, with offers soaring to $300 million. Since Tiny acquired a 60% stake in 2023 for a valuation of $50 million, the company's worth has surged sixfold. Discussions regarding the acquisition commenced in July, with preliminary valuations around $250 million. Among the potential buyers are Versant, Sony/Columbia, Paramount, A24, Netflix, the New York Times, and a private equity firm. Established in 2011, Letterboxd boasts approximately 30 million users, offering subscriptions priced at $19 or $49 annually. Its user data, especially the watchlist feature, is particularly appealing to distributors. The platform has also ventured into editorial content and introduced a film rental service in December.
