Kaunas Biennial Taps Josée Drouin-Brisebois and Nivi Christensen for 2027 Edition

The 16th Kaunas Biennial, marking its 30th anniversary, is set to take place from 17 September to 21 November 2027, under the curation of Josée Drouin-Brisebois and Nivi Christensen. Drouin-Brisebois, who previously curated the 13th edition, joins Christensen, who specializes in Greenlandic culture. Renata Bartusevičiūtė, the director, emphasized that this milestone invites both reflection and future-oriented thinking. The exhibition will delve into concepts of place, belonging, and resistance, highlighting care as a political act through various artistic expressions. Established in 1997, the biennial has transitioned from a focus on textile art to a broader range of practices, featuring over 1,400 artists from 60 nations. The 15th edition, overseen by Adomas Narkevičius, occurred from 12 September to 23 November 2025. Details of the complete program will be revealed shortly.
