Gabby Laurent's "Falling" Self-Portraits Published as Photobook by Loose Joints

British photographer Gabby Laurent, based in London, completed the multi-year series "Falling" in 2021, photographing herself repeatedly in the act of falling and surrendering bodily control to gravity. The self-portraits were shot in domestic settings, urban spaces and natural landscapes, and take on ironic, dramatic and surreal tones while addressing loss, grief and vulnerability. Loose Joints released the series as a photobook in 2021. Laurent's practice sits between photography and performance, using her own body to examine emotions, states of mind and personal experience. She earned a Master's degree in Photography from Plymouth University in 2017 and also works as a commercial photographer, collaborating with clients including Vogue, The V&A, The Financial Times, Christie's, Armani, Harper's Bazaar US and Wallpaper.
