François Prost's After Party Turns Provincial Nightclubs Into Daylight Surrealism

publication · 2026-10-20

Born in Lyon in 1980, French photographer François Prost has since 2011 driven across France and Belgium in a Ford Fiesta to record the facades of nightclubs in small provincial towns. The resulting series, After Party, depicts discotheques in full daylight, stripped of the music and crowds that normally fill them. Venues including Le Niagara, La Fiesta and Le Pharaon appear under the sun with colored signs, eccentric architecture and empty parking lots, taking on an ironic and at times surreal character that often clashes with their surroundings. The project received the Fidal Youth Photography Award in 2016 and was released as a book in 2018 by Headbangers Publishing. Prost, who studied graphic design and typography at the Saint-Luc School in Brussels, now lives and works in Paris. The work is distributed online via his Instagram account @francoisprost and his website francoisprost.com.
