Dario Giardi's Book on Music, Nature, and Climate Challenge Published by Mimesis

Dario Giardi's essay "E se fosse la musica a salvarci?" (Mimesis, Eterotopie, 2025), subtitled "la memoria dei suoni e la sfida climatica," explores the relationship between sound, nature, and environmental care. The book argues that reconnecting with natural sounds—from the heartbeat in the womb to the assiolo's summer call and rustling leaves—can foster a cultural revolution in humanity's attitude toward nature. Giardi contends that norms, technology, and sustainability policies alone cannot produce lasting change without an emotional relationship with the environment, supported by active listening. The text is interdisciplinary, drawing on philosophy, music, ecology, technology, and neuroscience. It examines music-nature connections across different languages and eras, from antiquity to contemporary field recording, where natural sounds become compositional material. The review by Antonia De Francesco for MIfacciodiCultura was published on Artspecialday on September 30, 2026.
