Atari Bets on Retro Gaming as Grand Theft Auto VI Looms
In November 2026, Atari plans to launch Barbie Rewind and Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered, strategically steering clear of the competition posed by Grand Theft Auto VI, which releases on November 19. Barbie Rewind features a collection of Barbie games from the 1990s and 2000s, while the remastered Godzilla revives a 2002 title that did not perform well in sales. CEO Wade Rosen's strategy, initiated in 2021, highlights Atari's commitment to retrogaming. Established in 1972, Atari was a pioneer in the video game industry but has evolved significantly; the current entity, formed in France during the 1980s, adopted the Atari name in 2003. In 2023, Atari acquired Digital Eclipse and Nightdive Studios and has released various titles, including Bubsy 4D and remastered versions of Outlaws and SiN Reloaded.
