Amazon Unveils Colorful New Kindle Lineup with Colorsoft, Paperwhite and Kindle Click Remote

Amazon has presented a new family of Kindle devices — the Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft — abandoning the black and grey casings of previous generations in favor of a global colored era. The new colorways are Alpine Sky, Fig, Ube and Seaglass Green, and a new inverted-stack display structure makes the screen perfectly flush, allowing the tone to extend uniformly across front and back. The 6-inch Kindle is the most compact ever made and arrives for the first time with an aluminum rear casing and matte finish. The Paperwhite is thinner and lighter, waterproof, with adjustable warm light and up to 12 weeks of battery life. The Colorsoft targets colors closer to paper than to a tablet, designed for covers, travel guides, comics and graphic novels. Among accessories, a magnetic case with physical buttons debuts alongside the Kindle Click, a wireless remote for turning pages from a distance. The ebook revolution, begun years ago, appears to have chosen a change of direction: the original promise was the convenience of carrying thousands of books in a pocket and reading in the dark, and today that promise has been kept, while the new challenge seems to be turning the Kindle into an accessory to show off, much like an iPhone, but with content longer than 60 seconds.
