Affide Report: Luxury Handbags Emerge as Italian Alternative Investment Asset

market-auction · 2026-10-13

The 2026 IPSOS DOXA – AFFIDE report reveals that in Italy, luxury handbags have emerged as a distinct asset class. The findings indicate that 41% of Italians are in debt, with 30% attributable to car loans and 7% for travel expenses. While 85% appreciate the worth of home valuables, 68% own fewer than five pieces of jewelry each year, and 60% express concerns about theft. Affide, the largest pawn credit firm in Italy, accepts luxury handbags as collateral, providing services for valuation, custody, financing, and auctioning. CEO Mattia Bruggi mentioned that women often rent bags valued between €10,000 and €15,000. Historically, figures like Christopher Columbus and Marilyn Monroe have utilized pawn services, yet only 5% of items are auctioned, with the majority being redeemed.
