Zone2Source Launches Zoöp Amstelpark as Multispecies Art and Ecology Initiative

Zone2Source, an art and ecology platform in Amsterdam's Amstelpark, has launched Zoöp Amstelpark, a collaborative project with the Zoönomisch Instituut and the Municipality of Amsterdam. The initiative, which began as a one-year experiment in October 2024, aims to create a testing ground where artists, policymakers, and citizens explore multispecies governance and ecological justice. Founded in 2013 by curator Alice Smits, Zone2Source uses pavilions, gardens, and outdoor spaces to host exhibitions, workshops, and research programs addressing climate crisis, extractivism, and social injustice through artistic practice. The Zoöp model incorporates a 'speaker for the living' role to advocate for non-human interests, with future plans including exhibitions on invasive species and digital-biological networks.
