Zhipu AI shares surge 37% on domestic chip data centre

Chinese AI firm Zhipu AI (Z.ai) saw its stock price surge 37% following reports that it completed a 1-gigawatt computing centre powered entirely by domestic chips. The Beijing-based company also acquired XCore Sigma, an infrastructure software developer spun off from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. XCore Sigma specializes in heterogeneous computing software, including compilers and inference engines, to improve AI chip utilization and reduce costs. The data centre and acquisition aim to address computing power constraints and enhance AI inference efficiency. Z.ai did not respond to requests for comment.
