Zerocalcare returns to Netflix with 'Due Spicci', a series about exhaustion

Zerocalcare's new animated series 'Due Spicci' premieres on Netflix, following his previous works 'Strappare lungo i bordi' (2021) and 'Questo mondo non mi renderà cattivo' (2023). The series centers on protagonists Zero and Cinghiale, who run a small bar in Rome while grappling with economic hardship, personal crises, and unexpected responsibilities. A figure from Zero's past reappears, destabilizing their fragile equilibrium. The character Armadillo, voiced by Valerio Mastandrea, returns as Zero's conscience. The show is noted for its focus on everyday exhaustion, emotional and financial weariness of a generation, and its use of Roman dialect, pop culture references from the 1980s and 1990s, and absurd mental imagery. The series avoids despair, instead offering tenderness toward confused but persistent individuals. It is described as Zerocalcare's most sincere and tired work.
