Zabludowicz Collection sale at Christie's London totals £15.4m
Christie's London auctioned 56 works from the Zabludowicz Collection on June 25, totaling £15.4m with fees. The sale achieved 89% sold by lot and 97% by value. Top lot Philip Guston's 'Mirror Head' (1977) fetched £3.9m (est £3.5m-£5.5m). Richard Prince's 'Untitled (Cowboy)' (1994) sold for £1.5m (est £800,000-£1.2m). Damien Hirst's 'I Love You' (1994-95) made £762,000 (est £600,000-£800,000). Records were set for Anj Smith, Jakub Julian Ziolkowski, and Rose Wylie. Three lots were withdrawn, including Heidi Bucher's 'Parquet, Room nr. 25, Second floor, Obermühle (Ahnenhaus)' (1980–82). Seven lots failed to sell, among them Alex Israel's 'Self-portrait' (2013) and Wade Guyton's 'Untitled' (2015). The auction followed the closure of the Zabludowiczs' non-profit project space in north London in 2023 after a boycott movement over their links to Israel. An ongoing online sale of 44 additional works runs until June 30. The couple started collecting in 1994 and initiated an international residency programme on Sarvisalo, Finland in 2010. In 2021, 25 artists 'deauthored' works in the collection due to the couple's Israeli ties. Tiffany Zabludowicz, now directing the collection, called the auction 'an exciting moment of transition.'
