Yaelokre's Keath Ósk Signs to Atlantic, Releases Debut Album Foreword
Keath Ósk, an artist of Icelandic-Filipino descent, has joined Atlantic Records and unveiled their debut album, Foreword. This project originated as a school assignment focused on children wearing animal masks. The track Harpy Hare gained immense popularity on TikTok in the summer of 2024, achieving the top spot on Spotify's Global Viral Songs chart. Known by the name Yaelokre, a blend of yellow and ochre, Ósk boasts nearly three million monthly listeners on Spotify. Last year, they completed a sold-out tour across the UK and Ireland. Foreword comprises 11 original songs, including a cover of Bonnie Tyler's Holding Out for a Hero, recorded in London, and features Tagalog lyrics. Ósk, who grew up on Luzon island in the Philippines, has family ties in Iceland and relocated to London earlier this year. Their fanbase includes Gen Z and queer individuals who engage in fan fiction and cosplay, often interpreting the music through LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent lenses. Earlier this year, Ósk removed two characters from the Meadowlark narrative after fans sexualized them, emphasizing, "My one rule is please don't sexualize any of my characters, because they represent me." They also promote sustainable clothing swaps at their concerts and are currently developing new music featuring Meadowlark characters. While Ósk does not disclose their gender or age, they appear to be in their early 20s.
