Xi Jinping to address World AI Conference for first time as China prioritizes AI

At the World AI Conference in Shanghai, Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to give a keynote speech, marking his first in-person participation since the event's inception in 2018. The conference, which kicks off on Friday, coincides with a high-level discussion on international AI governance and will host over 140 forums, 1,400 attendees, 1,100 exhibitors, and more than 300 products making their global debuts. Xi's presence highlights Beijing's commitment to leveraging AI for economic advancement, technological superiority, and establishing global standards. During a 2025 visit to a Shanghai start-up incubator, he characterized AI as entering a phase of 'explosive development' and encouraged the city to take the lead in its governance and advancement.
