Xavier Hufkens mounts first Walter Swennen show since his death

Xavier Hufkens is hosting the inaugural exhibition honoring Walter Swennen since his passing in 2025. Curated by Yann Chateigné Tytelman, this showcase includes a notable collection of previously unseen paper works that span a large portion of Swennen's artistic journey. These pieces illustrate the artist's creative process, encompassing sketches, tests, improvisations, repetitions, obsessions, and mistakes, along with recurring figures and motifs, evolving styles, and diverse techniques and materials. Swennen frequently remarked that painting originates from a divergence, where a project transforms into a finished piece when the unexpected occurs, whether through a leap into the unknown or an error becoming part of the artwork.
