Construction has commenced in Schipkau, Brandenburg, on what will become the world's tallest wind turbine. The steel lattice tower is designed to reach a total height of 360 meters from its foundation to the tip of its rotor. Upon completion, this structure will rank as Germany's second-tallest building, surpassed only by Berlin's 368-meter television tower. The project, with an estimated cost ranging from 20 to 30 million euros, is funded by the German Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation (Sprind). The turbine is scheduled to be connected to the power grid before the end of the current year. While the rotor system is a standard 3.8-megawatt model produced by the Saarland-based manufacturer Vensys, the innovative tower design aims to capture stronger winds at higher altitudes, thereby increasing energy yield.
