The FIFA World Cup trophy, containing 4.93 kg of pure gold, has seen its bullion value rise 157% since the 2022 tournament, now worth approximately US$713,000. This increase is driven by a historic gold rally amid geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty. The trophy was introduced in 1974, when its material value was US$25,000. According to the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), the value has surged nearly thirtyfold. Debajit Saha, lead analyst at LSEG Metals Research, noted that the trophy's rising melt value illustrates gold's price increases and its role during uncertainty. Central banks have also been aggressive buyers, underpinning demand. The 2026 World Cup will be held in New Jersey, USA.
