World Central Kitchen (WCK), the humanitarian organization founded by chef José Andrés in 2010, has achieved a significant milestone by serving its 300 millionth meal in Ukraine. The organization began its operations in Ukraine shortly after the Russian invasion in 2022 and has maintained a continuous presence there. Andrés reflected on this achievement via Instagram, noting the challenging early days at the border and praising the Ukrainian team members and local volunteers who have sustained the effort through difficult conditions. WCK's mission originated in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake, where Andrés cooked alongside displaced families, establishing a model of providing meals during crises. Beyond Ukraine, WCK conducts relief operations in multiple global locations, including Gaza, Hawaii, and Lebanon, and has previously assisted during U.S. government shutdowns.
