Winnie Herbstein's 'We need to speak about living room' explores collective living at Kunsthuis Syb

The exhibition 'We need to speak about living room' by Winnie Herbstein is currently on display at Kunsthuis Syb in Beetsterzwaag, Netherlands, until June 27. The showcase includes a film created for Kunsthuis Syb and Casco Art Institute: Working for the Commons, which captures a housing group's discussion on their responsibilities under external pressures. Herbstein's video, presented on a television in the former living room of Syb, delves into the dynamics of non-family collectives. Throughout the exhibition, lead reliefs echo the essence of various homes Herbstein has explored. A brick plinth features footage of the ecokathedral in Mildam. Herbstein also leads DIY workshops for women and non-binary individuals, while the film juxtaposes group conflicts with historical communal practices.
