Win a Warhol for $12: Dollar Bill Raffle at Basel Social Club

market-auction · 2026-06-17

At the fifth edition of Basel Social Club (BSC), an alternative art event running until June 20 in an empty office building, Zurich gallery suns.works is raffling an Andy Warhol signed dollar bill featuring an abstracted Campbell soup can drawing. Tickets cost SFr10 (about $12), with up to 2,000 available; over 100 had been sold by June 17. The work, authenticated by the Warhol foundation in the 1980s, typically fetches $800–$5,000 at auction. Proceeds benefit BSC and Pro Specie Rara, a Swiss foundation for endangered crops and livestock. The raffle is supervised by Basel canton police and run through an association, so gallery founder Lorenzo Bernet cannot profit. He also brought works by Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Cosima von Bonin, and Carsten Höller, priced SFr800–SFr400,000, plus another Warhol consigned by a Swiss contact. Bernet previously trialed a lottery at his Zurich gallery, calling BSC a laboratory for innovation.
