William Wegman's Early Video Works Featured in London Exhibition

'Video Works, 1970–77' is currently on display at Huxley-Parlour in London, featuring a selection of ten pioneering films by American artist William Wegman. This exhibition is open from April 24 to May 30, 2026, located at 3-5 Swallow Street. Wegman's unique style is evident in his use of language, visual puns, narrative brevity, and wordplay, including early collaborations with his Weimaraner, Man Ray. After relocating to Los Angeles in 1970, he embraced West Coast Conceptualism, which prioritized absurdity and humor over the structured text-image dynamics of the East Coast. Curator Doug Eklund highlights 'failure as an aesthetic strategy,' while art critic Kim Levin notes the disconnect between words and images in Wegman's work, underscoring its significance in 1970s American Conceptual art.
