William Morris Gallery Exhibition Explores Radical Domestic Spaces Across Two Centuries

Launching on 3 October 2026, the exhibition 'Earthly Paradise: Radical Living in the UK' explores the role of homes as sites for social innovation. Curated by Hadrian Garrard, Linsey Young, and Tayyabah Tahir, it covers a timeline from the late 18th century to today, starting with the Arts and Crafts movement and incorporating feminist and anti-racist housing initiatives. Featured locations include William Morris's Red House, Charleston by Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, Cedric Morris's Benton End, Derek Jarman's Prospect Cottage, and Dial House, established by Penny Rimbaud and Gee Vaucher. The exhibit showcases works from artists such as Tom Hunter, Raksha Patel, and Martin Parr, alongside archival items. Organized by Four Lanterns, a partnership involving the William Morris Gallery, Tŷ Pawb, Blackwell, and Dovecot Studios, it is supported by Art Fund's £5.36 million Going Places initiative and will travel to Wrexham, Windermere, and Edinburgh until 2028. Accompanying the exhibition will be ten newly commissioned writings from contributors like Charlie Porter, Sheena Patel, and Natalie Olah.
