Will Vogt's 'Behind the Hedges' Exposes the US Elite from Within

Will Vogt, a 72-year-old photographer from a wealthy family, has published his second photobook 'Behind the Hedges,' offering an insider's view of the American and British upper class. Unlike his 2023 debut 'These Americans,' which showed rawer, more interactive scenes, the new book presents 52 images of groups at parties, golf courses, and hunts, with no captions or individual identification. Vogt, who worked in oil and gas, owns a cattle ranch and a quail hunting business, has photographed his own social circle for 50 years. The book underscores the importance of access in photography, contrasting with works by Tina Barney, Larry Sultan, and Richard Billingham, who documented similar or different classes from outside perspectives.
