Whitney Museum Acquires Mel Casas's Humanscape 56 (San Antonio Circus)
The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York recently welcomed Mel Casas's 1969 acrylic painting, Humanscape 56 (San Antonio Circus), into its collection. This acquisition was made possible thanks to Ruiz-Healy Art, with Patricia Ruiz-Healy expressing her delight in getting Casas's piece included in an exhibition at the museum. Dan Nadel, the museum's Steven and Ann Ames Curator of Drawings and Prints, played a key role in this selection. Back in 2017, Ruiz-Healy Art showcased a solo exhibition dedicated to Casas, called Mel Casas: Iconic Reality, which featured a catalogue that included an essay by the scholar Carlos Francisco Jackson.
