Whistler Museum Highlights Karen Kögler Fonds, Archive of a Climber Lost at 22
The Karen Kögler Fonds, housed at the Whistler Museum, comprises an extensive collection of over 300 images capturing outdoor activities in the Sea-to-Sky area. Kögler's journals chronicle her experiences in climbing, mountaineering, and hiking, with one page interpreted as affirmations. Captions include memories such as "Blowdown Early Summer '97 w/ Dad [Hans]." Although Kögler pursued an Adventure Guide diploma at the University College of the Cariboo, she did not finish the program. Tragically, she passed away on January 24, 1999, due to an ice strike while climbing in Banff National Park. In her honor, her father created the Karen Kögler Memorial Award for dedicated Adventure Guide students. Collections Coordinator Atessa Showrai remarked that Kögler's logs reveal much more than just her summits.
