Wallievis Mural References Plant Shelter in Genk

A mural by Wannes Vrijs, known as Wallievis, has been completed in Genk, Belgium, in collaboration with the local audiovisual and artistic collective Slammer!, led by Toon Loenders. The mural features plants designed by Sam Billen, artistic director of Treepack, and references the Plant Shelter, a community initiative where people can bring diseased, neglected, or overgrown houseplants. Some of these plants were previously exhibited in a conservatory adjacent to the building that now bears the mural. The conservatory stands on the site of a former mural, 'The light that binds' by Jan Rosius, which was lost when the building was demolished. Wallievis, along with Sam Billen, Diren Agbaba, and Bob Thissen, has realized multiple public art projects in Genk.
