Volkswagen Smart eBike integrates rear-view camera and radar system
Volkswagen has introduced the Smart eBike series, created and produced by n+ under license, with pre-orders now available for deliveries set for Q4 2026. The lineup includes two variants—Sport and Crossover—both featuring a sleek flat-white aluminum frame, a 250W Yamaha PW-X3 mid-drive motor providing 85 Nm of torque and 25 km/h assistance, along with a detachable 490 Wh battery boasting a maximum range of 162 km. A standout feature is Smart View, which integrates a digital rear-view camera and radar in the rear mudguard, showing real-time traffic on a 3.5-inch screen on the handlebars and offering blind-spot alerts. An illuminated top tube serves multiple functions, including daytime running light and turn signals. Optional accessories comprise a Smart Helmet with crash detection and 47-gram Smart Glasses for navigation alerts. However, the behavioral lighting is not street legal in Germany and France. Both models weigh between 27.5 and 28 kg, with an optional 814 Wh battery and security pack featuring an 85 dB alarm and Apple Find My compatibility.
