Vogue Guide Highlights Seven Petite-Friendly Denim Styles for Fall

Vogue published a first-person guide to jeans for petite women, written by a 5'1" editor who tested pairs over 12 months. She begins by checking inseam length, ideally 25 to 30 inches for her height, then evaluates hip and waist fit. Marianne McDonald, creative director of Citizens of Humanity, says the rise should hit the most flattering point of the torso, while Still Here co-founder Sonia Mosseri favors oversized looks and jeans three sizes too big that drop six inches at the crotch. The featured pairs include Aflalo's Verne, a low-rise style the author had raw-hemmed by a tailor; Still Here's Sport Jean in Pear, a no-waistband track-pant-inspired style restocked after selling out; B Sides' Floppy in a stark white Japanese denim wash; Ossou's Drift, a cropped high-waisted 100% cotton pair in Sorrel; Agolde's Arc, her most-worn pair of the year; Tove's Sade with a 32-inch inseam; and Levi's 501 '90s ankle-length jeans. Additional picks include Citizens of Humanity's Winslow boyfriend, Still Here's Everyday Jean, Ossou's Hover with 2% stretch, and Mother's Half Pipe barrel jean. Agolde creative director Karen Phelps notes that rise, leg shape, and pocket placement determine flattery, with higher pockets lifting the silhouette. McDonald advises that denim should enhance rather than mask the body, and Phelps encourages trying multiple sizes and silhouettes.
