Vincenzo Trione appointed new president of Triennale Milano

Vincenzo Trione, born in Sarno in 1972, has been named the new president of Triennale Milano, succeeding Stefano Boeri after eight years. The appointment reflects a political compromise between Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli and Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala. Trione is a professor of Art and Media and Contemporary Art History at IULM University in Milan, former dean of its Faculty of Arts and Tourism, and president of the Scuola dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali since 2020. He has curated the Italian Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale, directed research at Museo Madre, and advised Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi on museum planning and contemporary art, curating the Napoli Contemporanea public art project with works by Michelangelo Pistoletto, Gaetano Pesce, and Jaume Plensa. Trione plans to study Triennale's unique structure for a month, emphasizing continuity with Boeri's legacy while seeking discontinuity. He aims to balance architecture and design with contemporary art, music, sciences, and technology, inspired by the Renaissance workshop and Bauhaus model. Rumors suggest architect Michele De Lucchi may become artistic director, but Trione only confirmed he will have a decisive role. The new board includes Stefano Zecchi, Dario Rinero, Donatella Sciuto, Alberto Toffoletto, Davide Rampello, Regina De Albertis, Antonio Calabrò, and Maria Adele Porro. Trione denied plans for a tricolore exhibition but mentioned a large show at the Scuderie del Quirinale.
