Viltrox EVO 75mm f/1.8 and 90mm f/2.2 Review: Affordable APS-C Telephoto Twins

Viltrox has expanded its EVO lineup with two APS-C telephoto lenses: the 75mm f/1.8 and 90mm f/2.2, priced at $330 and $380 respectively. Both lenses are nearly identical in build, weight (320g), and optical performance, featuring 58mm filter threads, weather sealing, USB-C ports for firmware updates, and STM autofocus motors. They are available for Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and Fujifilm X-mount. The Fujifilm versions lack an AF/MF switch and customizable button found on Sony and Nikon models. Sharpness is excellent even wide open, with minimal longitudinal chromatic aberration and well-controlled flare. Bokeh is smooth with no onion ring patterns, though the 90mm shows truncated highlights at f/4. Minimum focus distance is 0.74m with low magnification (0.12x for 75mm, 0.14x for 90mm), making them unsuitable for macro. The reviewer prefers the 75mm for its slightly brighter aperture and lower price, while noting the 90mm offers more compression. Alternatives include Fujifilm's 90mm f/2 (larger, heavier, more expensive) and full-frame lenses adapted to APS-C for Nikon Z and Sony E mounts.
