Ventunesimo Secolo: A Hybrid Exhibition-Performance Confronts 21st Century Capitalism

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 7:00 PM, the Teatro di Documenti in Rome will host Ventunesimo Secolo, a unique hybrid event blending exhibition and performance. Presented by Progetto 8 and Le Officine Universali, the project features seven artists working directly in front of an audience, transforming their creative process into live spectacle. The event originates from a 2024 theatrical monologue of the same name written by Massimo Napoli, which critiques humanity's failed domination of nature and oppressive capitalist systems. Artists will employ diverse media including drawing, painting, photography, video art, digital art, performance, voice, music, digital scenography, and dramaturgy. Daniele Contavalli presents acrylic paintings inspired by Napoli's texts, while Laura della Gatta offers a textile sculpture with harp improvisation. Claudio Marani contributes an interactive video installation connecting humans with plants through sensors. Enrico Pulsoni shares a 2022 creative didactic sheet for self-publishing booklets. Claudia Quintieri screens a video exploring city-nature contrasts and distributes postcards with abstract landscapes. Giuseppe Scelfo performs a vocal and musical action with pastel drawings. The event aims not to be a traditional show, exhibition, or series of performances, but a singular fusion of all these forms.
