Venetian Carnival Comes to Château de Breteuil on October 11, 2026

On Sunday, October 11, 2026, the gardens of the Château de Breteuil in the Chevreuse Valley will host a Venetian Carnival, with around thirty masked and costumed figures wandering among the flowerbeds, fountains, and labyrinth. Members of the association Au fil des idées, dressed in velvet capes, hoop skirts, tricorn hats, and bautas, will travel from Venice via the Chevreuse road and spend the day in the castle's pathways as if they had always lived there. Visitors may encounter them near a grove, posing before the brick and stone facade, or following them to the labyrinth. The costumed participants do not perform scenes; they inhabit the setting, which is the charm of the day. The rest of the estate remains open for regular visits: the château with its furnished rooms and wax figures depicting three centuries of family history, the French formal gardens, the kitchen garden, and the Perrault tales staged in the outbuildings, making Breteuil a family-friendly outing. Visitors are invited to come masked or costumed themselves and mingle with the Venetians for photos. The event takes place at the Château de Breteuil, Allée du Château, 78460 Choisel, in the Chevreuse Valley. Admission is €19.50 for adults, €17.50 for reduced rate, and €16.50 for children.
