Vancouver Art Gallery unveils new permanent collection exhibition space after 20-year gap

The Vancouver Art Gallery has launched a significant exhibition titled 'Highlights from the Collection,' which draws exclusively from its permanent holdings of over 13,000 artworks. This presentation coincides with the inauguration of a newly designated floor dedicated to the gallery's collection, marking the first such dedicated space in more than twenty years. The exhibition features more than 200 pieces created by over 100 artists, exploring the historical development of the collection by examining the various contexts in which art has existed, moved, and acquired significance. To protect works sensitive to light, the selection will rotate periodically, ensuring the exhibition remains dynamic and provides visitors with evolving viewpoints throughout its duration. Eva Respini, Interim Co-CEO and Curator at Large at the Vancouver Art Gallery, emphasized that the exhibition demonstrates the institution's continued dedication to increasing accessibility to its collection while highlighting narratives and relationships that remain relevant. The gallery's initiative represents a major step in showcasing its extensive permanent holdings to the public.
