V&A Wedgwood Collection Cataloguing Project Reaches 25,820 Objects, Targets 2030 Completion

institutional · 2026-10-06

Since 2023, the Victoria and Albert Museum has been documenting its Wedgwood Collection, which comprises 25,820 items. This collection was preserved in 2014 thanks to an initiative by Art Fund and contains over 60,000 pieces that were stored away during relocation. The initiative, titled 'Unpacking the V&A Wedgwood Collection', encompasses unpacking, assessing condition, cataloguing, photographing, and ensuring public access. Each object is assigned a WE.XXXX-2014 identifier, categorized by different criteria, and evaluated for its condition. High-resolution images are captured, and data is entered into the V&A's Collections Management System. A recent box revealed eight pieces designed by Nick Munro, labeled 'Rockers' and 'Spheres' from Sheffield. The V&A plans to complete the cataloguing by 2030 with assistance from various supporters.
