V&A East London launches exhibition celebrating 125 years of Black British music with Goldie, Estelle, and more.

The inaugural exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum's new location in east London has commenced, marking 125 years of Black music in Britain. Notable musicians such as Goldie, Estelle, Courtney Pine, AJ Tracey, and Flo curated important artifacts and photographs. Goldie selected Eddie Otchere's 1995 image 'Kemistry and Storm (The Diptych)' in memory of DJ Kemistry, who passed away in April 1999. Estelle chose a 1989 portrait of Slick Rick by Janette Beckman. Pine featured a 1930s sheet music folder belonging to Leslie 'Jiver' Hutchinson. AJ Tracey picked a 2010 photo from Notting Hill Carnival by Johny Pitts, while Flo opted for the 2022 Brit Awards trophy created by Slawn. Additional contributors include Dennis Bovell and Arlo Parks, linking artifacts to the cultural narratives of Black British music.
