US Government Orders Anthropic to Suspend Fable 5 and Mythos 5 Over National Security Concerns

Under national security regulations, the US government has mandated an export control measure that halts all foreign access to Anthropic's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models, impacting even foreign employees at Anthropic. This directive, received at 5:21pm ET, compels the company to immediately disable these models for all users to comply. Other Anthropic models are not affected. The government highlighted a potential jailbreak that could circumvent Fable 5's protections, although Anthropic contends that the identified vulnerabilities are minor and also present in other publicly-available models like OpenAI's GPT-5.5. While Anthropic disagrees with the directive, asserting the narrow jailbreak does not justify recalling a widely-used commercial model, the company is adhering to the legal order and aims to restore access promptly. Additionally, Anthropic has announced collaborations with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and DXC Technology to introduce Claude to regulated sectors such as finance, healthcare, and the public sector.
