US and Iran Agree to Doha Talks on Strait of Hormuz Amid Ongoing Attacks
Negotiations between the US and Iran are set to resume in Doha on Tuesday concerning the Strait of Hormuz, following two recent attacks. Iran did not participate in technical discussions on June 28, and Israeli sources suggest that the upcoming round has been canceled; however, Iran has not confirmed the Doha talks. Ship traffic remains minimal, with only 48 vessels passing through from June 26 to 28. The UN reports that approximately 80 mines are present in shipping channels. Iran's military has limited vessel movements to a corridor south of Larak Island. President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran announced the release of $6 billion in frozen assets, while France's foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot emphasized that sanctions will not be lifted without Iranian concessions on missiles. Oman has expressed opposition to tolls in the strait, and the US is reportedly deploying military assets to the area.
