URLO Studio Designs Mountain Bike Shelter in Ecuadorian Highlands

URLO Studio has completed the Refugio Pamba Bike project, a shelter for cyclists located in Ascázubi, Ecuador, at the base of Pambamarca mountain. The 899-square-meter structure was designed as a refuge for mountain bikers using the local bike park, providing a space for rest and protection from the harsh Andean weather conditions. The project was completed in 2025 under the curation of Valentina Díaz. Construction was handled by HeH Constructores, with structural engineering by AP Ingeniería Civil, electrical engineering by Microcircuits, and sanitary engineering by RA- Respuesta Ambiental. The wooden structure was executed by Sebastián Ponce. Photography for the project was provided by JAG Studio. Materials and products were supplied by several companies including Diacomet, Er Servicios, FV, Hormipisos, Maderoble, and Hormisuelos. The project falls under the category of sports architecture and serves as a contemplative pause point for athletes navigating the challenging terrain.
