UQ Art Museum Hosts Free Online Reading Series on Accessibility in Arts

The University of Queensland Art Museum has collaborated with Access Lab and Library to launch a complimentary digital reading series focused on accessibility within artistic environments. This three-session program, scheduled for May 20, June 3, and June 17, 2026, is designed for arts professionals and interested individuals across various disciplines. Access Lab and Library, established in 2023 by artists Fayen d'Evie and Jon Tjhia, promotes disability-led and artist-led approaches to accessibility in creative contexts such as performances, exhibitions, and publications. The organizers describe accessibility as a shared, experimental space and a gesture of generosity. Participants will receive preparatory materials on April 20. The sessions aim for an informal, conversational atmosphere while accommodating scholarly discussion, welcoming attendees with diverse levels of prior knowledge. The initiative encourages participation from disabled individuals, valuing their perspectives and leadership. The program's structure will be shaped collectively by attendees under the guidance of d'Evie and Tjhia, who emphasize learning from existing practices and envisioning new possibilities for inclusive creative work.
