UN/SEEN Book Recovers Women's Role in Early Graphic Design
'UN/SEEN—Women in Graphic Design up to the Bauhaus', a publication by Slanted Publishers, highlights the significant yet often ignored roles of female designers in the early days of graphic design. Edited by Petra Eisele and Isabel Naegele, and featuring a foreword by Ellen Lupton, this 422-page book is divided into ten chapters that explore areas such as book design, typography, illustration, packaging, and poster design. It includes insights from 19 contributors and utilizes recent research to shed light on women who shaped modern graphic design despite lacking historical acknowledgment. Additionally, the project is complemented by an online platform, UN/SEEN—Women Design, which collects ongoing research and archival resources. The hardcover edition, printed on Arena Rough paper by Fedrigoni, was launched in June 2026 and is available in both English and German.
