Umbigo Magazine Launches 95th Edition Exploring Border Concepts in Lisbon Event

In March, the PLMJ Foundation auditorium in Lisbon hosted the launch of Umbigo magazine's 95th edition. This publication marks the platform's 25th anniversary with a thematic focus on 'Fronte(i)ras' (Borders), examining transitional zones through their intersections, cultural exchanges, and historical tensions. The event featured participants including Manuel Cardoso from Brotéria and curator José Silverio. The edition conceptualizes borders not as rigid boundaries but as spaces for interaction, exploring ideas like permeability, coexistence, and transgression. It extends discussion beyond physical geography to include symbolic, political, and cultural shifts relevant to contemporary society. A notable inclusion is the LatimLove magazine, a project led by Brazilian creators Bruna Castro and Rafaela Cardeal that examines Latin America through combined research, curation, and creative practice, incorporating perspectives from across the region. Contributors from Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic contribute to LatimLove's collective exploration of identity, migration, and coexistence. Its presence in this Umbigo edition emphasizes the transnational character of the publication, aligning with the theme of borders as continuously evolving territories.
